Hoshin Kanri is a method for strategy deployment: the company’s few most important goals are translated level by level into concrete goals and actions across the whole organisation — with a back-and-forth dialogue (“catchball”), so each level commits to realistic contributions.
The problem Hoshin solves: strategies that never reach the floor. Without systematic deployment, departments work on their own priorities, and the strategic goals drown in operations.
The X-matrix is the classic tool: it links breakthrough goals, annual goals, improvement initiatives and target figures on a single sheet, so the connection is visible.
